Schroon’s Spring Spruce Up and Garden Sale

It’s time to get Schroon ready for 2012. With Americade, Memorial Day’s Opening Weekend and summer right around the corner, Schroon is about to undergo her annual pre-season make over.

So mark your colanders for this Saturday, when volunteers will trash the trash, paint the town and clean up the community garden.

The Lions Club, The Schroon Lake Teacher’s Association and The Schroon Lake Bed and Breakfast will be trolling for trash along their designated sections of Route 9.

And students from Schroon Lake Central School will add a splash of color with the addition of a mural to be painted outside the law offices of Parker and Indelicato on Route 9, just north of the school.

And there’s going to be plenty of action at the Schroon Lake Community garden in town. Gardeners will be getting the site in tip top shape for the growing season and planting their flowers, fruit and veggies.

The highlight of the event will be a Garden Sale, from 10 am  - 2 pm, one of the organizers Sharon Piper, said today.

“The plant sale won’t just be for those wanting to fill their beds in the community garden. It’s for anyone who wants to buy plants,” Sharon said.

The good folks from Green Thumb Nursery, of Fort Ann, will host the sale. A portion of the proceeds will go to help run the garden.

The Schroon Lake Library is doing a Gardening Club for kids program, led by the Library’s Sheila Yanko and Jane Bouchard.
