With Spring comes new beginnings and that means the return of an amazing array of wildlife to our area. And for photographer extraordinaire Pat Thorne, that means ample opportunities to capture the return of some amazing species.

From Pat; "This beautiful male wood duck with his pronounced iridescent green crested head was paddling about on Sunday morning.  He probably wintered in the South eastern states or in Mexico and is just returning.  He feeds on acorns from pine and white oaks, seeds and corn.  Most wood ducks breed in wood pecker cavities or manmade nesting boxes.  Last year, we had three young wood ducks in Lockwood Bay of Schroon Lake.  Years ago, the boy scouts put out several wood duck nesting boxes in the area.  I am delighted to see him and hope he stays in our area".
