July 4th Fireworks Launch Site Up In The Air

The Lake's high water level -- responsible for numerous floods, delayed dock installations, a missing paddleboat and an overall late start to the summer season -- may impact the location of where this year's July 4th fireworks will be launched.

There may not be a large enough area, behind the Boathouse, the traditional launch site, to set off the fireworks, Town Supervisor Cathy Moses told Schroon Laker.

"Our back up plan is the boat launch area at Word Of Life, " Moses said. "We used that area a few years ago and it worked really well." A final decision will be made Friday.

Grandma's Paddle Boat Found! A Family Rejoices!

Grandma's Missing Paddle Boat  -- which we told you about over the weekend -- has been found!  We just learned from owner Tom Murphy that he found the paddle boat about 3/4 of a mile or so from his south Schroon home on the lake bank just south of the Old Scaroon Manor site.
"It had washed up on the shore and somehow managed to stay there," Tom told us.

The paddle boat -- owned by Tom but used almost exclusively by his mom and her grand kids --  had floated away from Tom's yard sometime in April, despite being tethered and way up on the shore, which you can see in the picture below.

The Docks Are Back In Town

Just a few short weeks ago, the above scene didn't exist. That lush grass?  Under a good foot of water. Those town docks? Out of harm's way in the boat trailer parking lot. But as the near record lake levels finally receeded, life is returning to normal at the Town docks. It won't be long until the Town installs the other floating docks, but as you will see after the jump, many water front residents are not quite out of the water.
