It's A Huge Week in Schroon Lake (Again)

 

Flipsydz, an amazing a cappella doo-wop group perform at the Boat House on Tuesday night at 8pm.

It’s a huge week in Schroon this week, with the 43rd annual Arts and Crafts Fair, sponsored by the Schroon Lake Association, being among the highlights. This fair is huge. More than 100 selected vendors will be at the Town Park above the beach this Saturday, July 21st. We’ll have a full report later this week. So lets spin the Schroon Lake Fun-O-Meter and see what else comes up.

Monday

Food, glorious food at  our weekly Farmer's Market. Last week a couple of vendors sold out of their baked goodies. See our story below.

Kids Yoga. Stretch the imaginations and bodies of  the little ones with this fun class for kids taught by Deb Philp. Deb combines stories and yoga stretches in this fun and imaginative 30 minutes class, which ends with a "calming relaxation." 12.30pm  - 1 pm. Drop-ins welcome and each class is $5. Open Jam Session From 7pm - 10pm tonight is where you can see some top class talent at our weekly Acoustic Band Jam. Talented locals and visitors gather to pump out the jams, with fiddles, guitars and banjoes. At the Boat House. Free.

Co-Ed basketball for kids at the Town Courts starting at 6 pm. Grades 7 - 12. (Also on Wednesdays)

Tuesday

There's a great way for kids to learn about the history of the Adirondacks in this weekly summer tradition at The Paradox House Gallery Retreat. Kids ages 4 to 10 hear stories about the characters who made the ADKs what they are today. 167 State Route 74, Severance. 518-351-5003

The first of two Narrated Boat Tours (the other runs Thursday) takes off from the Word Of Life dock at 11am. If you don't have access to a boat while you are here, this is a terrific way to explore the northern reaches of our lake and at the same time learn about our town's rich past. The tours are narrated by local Laura Donaldson, who knows more than she can fit into this 30 - 45 minute tour. Advance tickets are a must and are available at the Chamber of Commerce office on Main Street. 518-532-7675.

Tennis, (for kids) anyone? The Town Of Schroon sponsors weekly tennis lessons on Tuesdays at 9 am and Thursdays at 5pm. Details at the Town Hall.

Wanna keep in shape over the summer and do it in a fun way? Zumba Queen Cathy Peace sweats off the calories twice a week at her Zumba workout. Every Tuesday and Thursday mornings (8 am to 9 am) @ the Schroon Lake Central School gym, join Cathy for some rockin’ Zumba. $5 per class.

Doo-wop sensations Flipsydz perform at the Boat House tonight. When the lads played Schroon last year, the show got rave reviews. 8pm – 10 pm, proudly presented by the Schroon Lake Arts Council.

Wednesday

If you have an insatiable appetite for books and reading, and we know a few folks who do, check out the weekly Used Book Sale in the basement of the Hudson Headwater Medical Center. Sponsored by the Friends Of Schroon Lake Library. 10 am - 1 pm.

Story time for kids at the Public Library goes at 10.30 am. Guest readers each week read and bring children's stories to life.

The Twelve Labors Of Hercules.  This is a play especially written for kids and performed by the fine, talented, actors from the Adirondack Shakespeare Company, aka ADK Shakes.  Remember, this show is for everyone and adults will enjoy the witty script and fine acting and contemporary references to popular culture. And we’re betting that the reviews from last week are gonna pack the Boathouse today at11 am.

It's the opening night of the opera, Little Women at the Seagle Music Colony. The show goes through Saturday night. 8pm. 518-532-7875. Watch for our preview, Wednesday.

Family Square Dance. Grab your partners, kids, aunts, and neighbor and head on down to the town park for our weekly Square Dance. This is  a tradition that makes Schroon so special. The fun starts at 7pm.

Thursday

Art In The Park. Local artist Ann Gregson sets up shop in the Town Park with a weekly art project for kids, who almost have as much fun as the adults who attend do. See our review from last week. Call 518-532-0275 for more information.

Critters at Night. An animal program for kids in the meeting room at the Town Hall. Sponsored by the Schroon Lake Library.

The weekly Arts and Crafts Market, on the lawn of the Town Hall, continues to grow and attract new, local artisans. From hand made jewelry, to soaps, to clothing, you won't leave empty handed. 10 am to 4 pm.

The Summer Nights Big Concert series continues at the Jack Wyrtzen Center in Pottersville with performer Mark Lowery.

Open Mic night at the loft at Witherbee's Carriage House. Mark Piper gets the crowd warmed up and runs this ever-popular show. Sign up at 6.30 pm with the music starting at 7pm.
