From Curts Lumber:

Friday March 20, 2020

Together, we face the rapidly changing circumstances occurring due to the COVID-19 situation, we want to share with you our priorities. Curtis Lumber remains open for business. We are committed to the health and well-being of our employees, customers and community. As such, we are taking the following actions to reduce the spread of COVID-19 as per current state and federal guidelines. Effective with the start of business on Monday March 23, 2020 we will be making the following changes to our schedule and customer pickup and delivery procedures. Hours of Operation:

All Locations: Monday-Friday 7:00am-4:00pm Saturday 8:00-12:00 Sunday: Closed Accounts Receivables will be staffed for telephone calls only and can be reached at 518-490-1356. Please note all payments on account must be made over the phone, via mail, or on-line. Our outside sales team have been instructed to no longer conduct face-to-face sales calls.

Communications will be done electronically, including quotes and estimates. If you have any questions on these changes, please contact the manager of the location. We will service customers the following two ways,

Curbside Pickup and Job Site Deliveries. We are open for business, but our stores and warehouses are going to be closed for public access. Curbside Pickup: To place an order, please contact us at one of our 21 locations All curbside pickup orders will need to be pre-paid with a credit card or invoiced to a house account at the time of order. Please note; no cash or checks will be accepted. You will receive a phone call or text (indicate preference at time of order) notifying you that your order is ready for pickup and instructions for pickup. All pickup orders will be placed in an isolated customer pickup zone.

Delivery Expectations: Our drivers have been instructed to have as little interaction with customers as possible. Drivers will do their best to unload deliveries in the best location possible, while maintaining a safe distance. Drivers will not be bringing product into a customer’s home. At this time, we will be waiving the requirement for a signature. Drivers will depend on photos for delivery verification. Although this is an unprecedented event, Curtis Lumber has always put our employees, customers and the communities in which we operate, first, and we will continue to do so. Thank you for your business.

They purchased the property in 2018 and have been in renovation overdrive transforming the restaurant, bar and motel rooms until just a few days ago. The bar features 20 taps and a new menu, which we’ll have more details on in the days ahead. What’s different about TB@SL is that unlike Drake’s, the y are opening for lunch and dinner.

And for electric car drivers there’s an electric car charging station – the only one for 40 miles. Watch this space for more information in the days ahead.

An Ode To Lowes...And A Hat Tip To Curtis Lumber

We would often joke when we went to the Lowes Hardware at Ticonderoga that the store looked like a Hollywood set, where the company might film their commercials.

That's because the store was like a scene from a movie, brightly lit, always pristine - where the floors actually sparkled. There appeared to be not a screw out of place. We were always helped by happy, smart and attentive employees.  (That's a far cry from other Lowes stores we've been to, as far south as Maryland and New Jersey, where it seemed like a hurricane had just passed through moments before our arrival, scattering products and making the staff disappear).

Bye Bye Lowes of Ti

The Lowes Hardware store at Ticonderoga, our favorite area big box hardware store – where we always had exceptional service for appliance deliveries – is no more.

We just got a tip that the Lowes closed unexpectedly late Sunday. Now, more than 80 employees are without jobs. An answering machine greeting today told would be customers: "We're sorry, but this location is permanently closed. Please visit our location in Glens Falls."

The store -- one of seven that got the chop late last night -- came on the eve of the hardware giant's earnings call this morning, which you can read here

The Press Republican has more on the story here, including a statement from Lowes about the closure of the seven stores --  including Ticonderoga:

“The seven stores missed sales estimates from the outset,” said Public Relations Manager Stacey Lentz on Monday afternoon from corporate headquarters in Mooresville, N.C.

“They didn’t improve over time. We didn’t see a scenario that led to profitability for the store.”

Our thoughts and prayers go out to the employees who lost their jobs.
